Broken Parts

A broken mind and a broken heart

Are not merely just broken parts

What if being whole is knowing my unbroken soul

And what’s broke is how I get there

Then break my heart and change my mind

I’ll trust the unbroken soul of mine

‘Four strong winds and the seven high seas’

I can lose myself in lines like these

When I feel the words

It can make me sad

If I can write my own prose and sing my own song

Will any of the sadness be gone

Did my broken parts succumb to life

Broken by a world in strife

Or have I broken them myself

Building, then breaking the image of me

I no longer recognized - no longer believed

I never intended to revisit any pain

To experience again anxieties of the insane

I just want to know who I am

Maybe I’m only a fool going back through the pain of the past

Toward a last broken part -

A white flag, on a broken mast

Stumbling back over broken bits and pieces

My memory, may be distorted, but never ceases

I can only walk over, or by, or through

A road I walk that will take its toll

Yet, I remain faithful I’ll find an unbroken soul.
